Child Asylum Seekers and a Culture of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme"

A report to be published this week by the Refugee Council is set to accuse the immigration service of detaining child asylum seekers by wrongly classing them as adults.
This report, called "Not a Minor Offence", is set to tell us that we've no idea how many children have been "illegally detained as adults", as well as complain that immigration officials are too likely to classify someone as an adult when there is any doubt.
Of course there have never been any cases in which the converse is true, a 'child' turned out to be a psychopathic adult. Aziz Achaheb-Cedar, who claimed to be 15 but who is now believed to be at least 18, isn't in prison for nearly stabbing a foster mother to death. Nor are there any other cases like that, of course not.
Those inconvenient facts won't discourage the Refugee Council though, we should take all those asylum seekers who might be children at their word. Let's house them, give them some money, get them a social worker. They've got rights!
Expected to be highlighted in the report is the case of "Faisal". He spent a couple nights in a police cell, then a detention centre, after his claim of being 15 was not believed. Apparently he faced death in Afghanistan if sent back, but now he's whining about such distressing experiences as being told by an immigration officer that he'd lied about his age. He's now in hostel accommodation, at college - wonder who pays for that - and still complaining.
Now, let's be charitable for a moment. We'll ignore the fact that the UK is not very likely to be the first safe country these 'child' asylum seekers fetched up in, so they should not be our problem to begin with.
Yet, they've managed to make it unaccompanied from God knows where to turn up here. They travelled thousands of miles alone, ignoring other safe countries, no doubt attracted by Britain's well known world status as an idiot country that just hands out money and homes to new arrivals.
In their own country they claim they face death, torture, abuse, beatings, hell on earth, and all the rest of the gubbins. We'll assume their claims are genuine for the time being. But no, they escaped that, they got somewhere safe, they fetch up in Britain.
Do they thank us, do the Refugee Council thank us? No, they prattle on about how we're abusing human rights and committing illegal acts by locking these people up whilst we attempt to verify their age.
They get their hot meals, a bed to sleep in, and don't face any of the torture or death they claim to face at home. They're safe - and yet still they complain!
If any of us genuinely faced death somewhere, how many of us would complain if avoiding a grisly end meant a month or two in detention?
None of us, we'd be happy to be alive and somewhere safe. Not our enriching asylum seekers and the guardians of refugee rights though, all they do is moan about how things are not good enough and how we're not doing everything just the way they'd like it.
It is a fact that - whether many of these claims are genuine or otherwise (be they child or adult) - instead of being grateful for the safety Britain idiotically provides them their first actions are to complain, demand more, hold out the begging bowl and say "Give, I demand this".
Is that really the actions of someone genuinely fleeing death and horrific persecution, or does it sound more like someone who (whatever their circumstances) has identified an easy touch to fleece, who has decided that they are out for number one and are going to milk every handout that they can get from rights obsessed Britain?
