Analysts forecasts that the SNP is set for a council vote 'landslide' should set alarm bells ringing across Scotland. By fielding more than 600 candidates the SNP is out to crush all opposition.
Here in Scotland we have the Single Transferable Vote system for local elections. This means you vote in preference for your most preferred candidate (or party) down to your least preferred, or just vote for one or two and forget the rest.
Wards are split into three or four seats and the SNP for the first time is standing two, three and in some case's even four candidates in almost every single ward across Scotland.
This has resulted in the SNP having more than half the candidates for the total of council seats. In Aberdeen for instance it has 25 for 43 seats and in Aberdeenshire 36 for 68 seats. This could easily give it control of both councils, given the huge unpopularity of the three main parties (or one mainstream party and two now fringe parties joined at the hip). Repeat this across Scotland and couple it with the SNP's iron grip on Holyrood and you have the makings of Salmond's totalitarian state.
This all goes hand in hand with his plans to delay the independence referendum until late 2014. He needs time to recruit an army (about 120,000) of immature easily-swayed 16 and 17 year olds to his cause. This will be achieved by the pushing of his 'Scottish studies' in the school curriculum by SNP led councils and the teaching of the SNP's anti-British version of history.
In line with this he also wants to give the vote to foreigners (about 70,000 and rising) living and working here, he knows they are obliged by his open-door policy and is encouraging a further influx of people who have no loyalty to Britain no innate feeling for our culture, history, beliefs or values.
Make no mistake Salmond is no Nationalist his real colour is deep red, and on Thursday we may just be taking another step towards becoming the Soviet state of Scotland.
